February- Age-Related Macular Degeneration Awareness Month 2021
The macula is a part of the retina that has made up of a complex neural tissue. Nearly 11 million people in the United States have some form of age-related macular degeneration. ARMD is the most common condition of vision loss for Americans aged 50 and older. People who have a family history of ARMD, are Caucasian, and smoke are at a higher risk for ARMD. This eye disease has symptoms like noticing that straight lines are looking wavy. Some people may see areas near their central vision becoming blurry and may even get worse overtime.
