Welcome Dr.Chanell Nguyen O.D.
She's accepting new patients and walk-ins
on Monday, Wednesday and Friday only.
Dr. Chanell Nguyen was born and raised in Wichita, Kansas. She graduated from Wichita State University in 2017 with a Bachelor of General Studies - Chemistry. She expressed confidence in knowing that she belonged in healthcare but was unsure at the time which route to take after completing her undergraduate studies. After shadowing multiple doctors offices, working in pharmacy for several years, and exploring different avenues in the medical field, she experienced her own LASIK surgery complication and it sparked an interest in learning about the eyes. Dr. Chanell has worn contacts and glasses since she was 9 years old and Dr. Wendy Foster was her first optometrist at the Towne East Mall. In 2018, she began browsing the internet and came across Vision Care 4Life and shot an e-mail to the manager asking about shadowing opportunities. She showed up at VC4L and to her pleasant surprise, it was Dr. Foster that was the optometrist. After shadowing for a few weeks and falling in love with the profession, she was given the opportunity to begin working at VC4L as an optometric technician and optician. She emphasizes her admiration for the way that Dr. Foster was/is able to connect with her patients and the high level of respect the patients have for her. It was not long until Dr. Chanell was sure that this was a career she wanted to pursue. In 2019, she went to work toward her Doctor of Optometry at the University of Missouri - St. Louis. During her time in school, she had the opportunity to further her education at 5 different externship sites, gaining experience in co-management with ophthalmologists, observation of surgery/laser/injections, vision therapy, pediatrics, contact lenses, ocular disease, and low vision. After graduating in 2023, Dr. Chanell has since returned to Vision Care 4Life to work as an optometrist alongside Dr. Wendy Foster.
She is a member of the AOA, KOA, MOA. Her most recent charitable events include volunteering at the Special Olympics Healthy Athletes Opening Eyes Event in June 2023, providing eye exams and glasses to hundreds of athletes; this was her third time volunteering at this event. In July 2023, she traveled to Dallas, TX to administer eye exams to 200+ patients of all ages over a span of two days with the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation. She describes these opportunities as tremendously rewarding.
Aside from work, Dr. Chanell spends a significant amount of time with her family. She is the younger sibling to her brother, and has many cousins that she spent her whole life growing up with. She describes both of her parents as hard-working and motivated; they came to America from Vietnam with only $100 and have been able to support both children in working toward their dreams and aspirations. Her family is one that is musically inclined; she plays piano and sings, her dad plays piano and guitar, her mom plays guitar and drums, and her brother plays drums. Outside of music, she also enjoys playing in pickleball and volleyball leagues, golfing, and painting/drawing.
